It is illegal to sit on carries or twin cabs trays which do not have canopies.
This has been confirmed by Land Transport Authority CEO, Naisa Tuinaceva after Fijivillage raised the question on whether it is appropriate for people to sit on vehicle trays which is not properly secured.
A number of times people have been seen sitting on a vehicle such as a twin cab which has an open boot which can put their life in danger.
Tuinaceva said this has been a practice for years and now they have started awareness process on the issue.
He also stressed that there are cases where people are allowed to sit at the back of the vehicles with open boot however an access permit is needed for it.
