Illegal fireworks being used
Director for the Fair Trading Department, Colin Lewis, has confirmed that for the past two weeks a team has been going around the country looking for banned firecrackers.
Lewis also revealed that as of today a team made up of the Fiji Police Force, Mineral Resources Department and Fair Trading department officers will be out today to catch those people who will be using banned fireworks.
Meanwhile Principal Mining Engineer, Ian Fong, also said that a fine of 200 dollars will be handed out to people found using banned firecrackers and a maximum fine of 400 will be handed to shop owners who are caught selling these fireworks.
But he also added that this fine is not including the others that may be charged by the Ministry of Commerce and the Fair Trading Board which he added may total up to a larger figure.
Some of the banned fireworks are: woodpeckers, bangers, strikers, lady crackers, mines, shells, rockets and rockets without sticks.
