The Digicel Fiji 7s team will have to do much better in the start of the first two legs of the 2008/2009 IRB World 7s Series, if they are to get a good seeding for the next year's IRB Rugby World Cup 7s tournament in Dubai.

The IRB has announced that every team will be ranked before the Pool is drawn for the Rugby World Cup 7s tournament in January next year.

The new ranking process will therefore fully reflect the competitiveness of the best men's national teams on the global IRB 7s World Series.

The seeding for the men's competition will see the 12 IRB 7s World Series core teams ranked entirely on their cumulative points table over the last two Series and the opening two rounds of the 2008/2009 Series, which kicks off next month.

The top six teams will each top a competition pool with the teams ranked seven to 12 drawn in the second band.

Fiji who is the Melrose Cup reigning champions, lost in the Dubai and George 7s tournaments last season.
