There is hope that the recent decision by the Commerce Commission to increase the amount of money the Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) pays Independent Power Producers (IPPs) will eliminate the use of diesel generators in the years ahead.

Independent Power Producers or IPPs were private commercial entities which generate electricity through renewable sources and supply the power into the FEA grid for distribution.

Commerce Commission chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy said the increase in cost per unit paid to IPPs will definitely benefit consumers in the future.
