The interim government is supporting the Earth Hour which will be celebrated on the 28th of this month from 8.30pm for an hour organized by the World Wildlife Fund South Pacific.

The Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office Parmesh Chand said that the Public Service Commission has been requested to mobilize government machinery in its effort to give its full support to Earth Hour.

He said all the civil servants have been encouraged to participate in this event by switching off lights and all non essential electrical appliances for one hour at home and work from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

Chand added that this initiative should be supported by everyone as it we look after nature and the earth, we will get goodness in return.

Last year more than 50 million people around the world including Fiji participated in Earth Hour in 370 cities and Fiji was the first country to switch off its lights at various places.
