The interim government today received $1million from the Government of Papua New Guinea for the Prime Minister's National Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of PNG Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare, High Commissioner Peter Eafeare said the people and Government of PNG share the loss and grief felt by the people and the Government of Fiji as a result of the floods.

Interim Defense Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau said the donation will go a long way in the Government's effort to carry out its relief and rehabilitaiton work. He said Fiji and PNG are not only countries in the region with strong bilateral and multilateral ties, but close friends both in good and bad times.
