Based on global estimates, it is believed that for a country with a population like Fiji, around 85,000 citizens in the country are living with disabilities.
And this has prompted the interim cabinet today to adopt the National Policy on Persons Living with Disabilities from 2008 to 2018 after submissions by the Interim Minister for Health Dr Jiko Luveni.
Dr Luveni said is has become necessary to adopt the national policy.
She added that the step will also ensure that people with disabilities are not discriminated against.
