The Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga said he will never cut off his allegiance to the Fiji military and the government to travel to New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup.

This follows NZ Foreign Affairs Minister, Murray McCully’s announcement that Colonel Tikoitoga’s visa request to go to NZ for the Rugby World Cup has been rejected.

McCully said the NZ government has made it very clear that anyone with Fiji military or government links will be turned down under sanctions imposed in December 2006.

He said another rugby union board member with links to the government has also had his application refused.

McCully said he will only recommend special dispensation from the sanctions if the Fiji government associates have genuinely and permanently broken their links.

However Colonel Tikoitoga said the policy is absurd and stupid.
