I did not cause any injuries to Nimilote Verebasaga.
Those were the only words of soldier, Private Maika Vuniwawa, this morning, as he stood up to give his unsworn statement in the Suva High Court in the murder trial of Verebasaga.
Judge Justice Daniel Gounder gave Vuniwawa the opportunity to give his side of the story from the dock, however, the accused did not say anything further than his one line statement.
Soon after, Judge Gounder directed the defence and prosecution that they must make their closing submissions on Monday following which he will give his summing up.
The assessors will then retire behind closed doors to consider their verdict.
The case is adjourned till 10am Monday.
