Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry said he joined the interim government to assist the nation in moving forward and ensuring that Fiji returns to true democracy.

When questioned on why he joined the interim administration when he always fought for parliamentary democracy after the 1987 and 2000 coups on a special talkback show on Legend FM yesterday, Chaudhry said that his condition was clear that executive authority should be handed back to President Ratu Josefa Iloilo before he would assist in the process.
