Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett is taking a more subtle approach, but said the Crusaders will not be alone in taking on an unfamiliar look ahead of the sides’ crucial clash in Wellington on Saturday.

Dan Carter is set to remain at second five-eighth after young pivot Tom Taylor’s record setting 31-point haul in the Crusaders 31-24 win over the Stormers in Christchurch over the weekend.

And although Hammett is already talking up his former team as hot favourites, he said the weekend bye came at a perfect time for the Hurricanes, poised at sixth place on the ladder, but just two points clear of the Crusaders.

The Crusaders and Hurricanes match will kickoff at 7.35pm on Saturday.

Meanwhile, after playing seven matches, the Chiefs rugby team now lead the Super Rugby table with 31 points followed by Bulls and Stormers with 29 points and Highlanders in the 4th spot with 26 points.
