Hurricanes Captain Dane Coles could be ruled out for the Super Rugby final on Saturday if he cannot overcome his rib injury.

If he is fit to play then he would be the only potential change to the starting team to play the Lions.

If he is unable to start, then Ricky Riccitelli will again take his place with Leni Apisai on the bench.

Julian Savea will be on the bench for the third week in a row, with Jason Woodward starting on the left wing against the Lions at Westpac Stadium.

Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd says the situation with Coles is similar to last week.

The Hurricanes play the Lions in the 2016 Super Rugby final at 7.35pm Saturday.
