Hurricane Situation Report
Speaking to Village News, Noa Cagituivei said the village homes have been strapped but they have not felt the expected strong winds at this stage.
Noa said the villagers are all in their homes and are aware of the stronger structures on the island which can be used as evacuation centers, if the need arises.
A number of roads in Nabouwalu, Taveuni and Savusavu are now closed to all traffic due to landslides and fallen trees.
An official from the Department of Roads in the north confirms that the roads are closed to traffic until further notice.
Labasa town is now deserted as people brace themselves for Hurricane Daman which is now bearing down on the northern division.
Speaking to Village News, Divisional Crime Officer Northern Superintendent Luke Rawalai said only a few people can been seen scrambling around for last minute supplies.
Rawalai confirms that police and DISMAC are on full alert to assist people if the need arises.
