Hunt on for driver
Police spokesperson, Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that the hunt is still on for the truck driver and has urged people to assist police and contact the nearest police station if they have any information.
The 42 year old man died instantly after he was hit by the container truck which was heading towards Sigatoka.
Meanwhile, the traffic department together with officers from the Western Region Headquarters and Lautoka Police Station began an operation yesterday aimed at bringing to a stop the road fatalities in the western division.
The operation will see officers being deployed to the roadside scrutinizing all entries, exits to the City and stretches outside the City area.
Road blocks to help monitor movement will be erected.
Recent statistics show that the road death toll now stands at 37 compared to 28 during the same period last year.
Of the 37 fatalities, 21 came from the Western Region alone.
The figures also show that about fifty percent of fatalities occur over weekends
