Hundreds of people in Fiji still do not have birth certificates, while many deaths also go unrecorded by the Registrar of Deaths, Births and Marriages.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Permanent Secretary for Justice Pio Tikoduadua said the onus lies on the families to ensure that all births and deaths are registered.
However, Tikoduadua said they hope to decentralize the registration services in the future as many such cases arise due to difficulties faced by people in rural areas and outer islands.
