More than a hundred elderly people could not hold back their frustrations as they had to wait for hours to be served at the Social Welfare Office in Suva today.
Fijivillage News visited the Suva office where hundreds of people were waiting to renew their Social Welfare Payment Voucher Books, and many of the elderly citizens expressed their anger after travelling from far away and having to wait for hours in the hot sun.
However an official from the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare told Fijivillage News that the long lines are due to the fact that the new voucher books were not ready yet.
He said it clearly states on the back of the old voucher books that the new books could be collected on the 6th of January after they all had been printed and filed for easier distribution.
