The first ever Fiji Humpback Whale Survey training workshop got underway in Suva yesterday with the aim to equip volunteers with the skills to detect, monitor and record movement of the largest mammals in the world through Fiji water waters.

WWF's Saras Sharma said the 30 volunteers are being told the basics of the humpback whale migration patterns as the whales migrate all the way from Antarctica to the Pacific Ocean.

She said Fiji is fortunate that humpback whales pass through our waters every year.
