High Court Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem said Human Rights in Fiji has become more fashionable than it used to be.

She was speaking today at the Open day for the Ecumenical Centre for Research Education and Advocacy.

Justice Shameem said when she spoke of human rights last year at any public forum, she often felt like some neocolonial, post -modern liberal flower child, bent on imposing foreign values on the resistant Fiji population.

She said now when she talks of human rights, she gets a chorus of approving cheers from the most unexpected quarters and she thinks whatever the reasons might be for the sudden sea -change, it can only be for the good.
