The Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association has confirmed that hotels in the Nadi to Lautoka area are preparing to scale up their own water-saving efforts ahead of the planned water shutdown from the 3rd to the 6th of next month due to major repair works at the Nagado Treatment Plant.

Association CEO Fantasha Lockington has also highlighted that meetings with the Water Authority of Fiji has enabled a collective effort to ensure that the tourism industry's backup water supplies can be maintained at the required levels during the water disruption period.

The scheduled water shut down will affect areas along the Momi to Lautoka areas from 1am Saturday 3rd February to 5pm Tuesday 6th February.

Lockington says that discussions with the Authority revealed plans to have approximately 100 water trucks available to be used to cart water during the shutdown.

There are 15 filling points that will be used to refill the trucks to ensure faster turnarounds.

The Water Authority has also confirmed that they have trucks available to refill backup tanks and reservoirs adding that water supply is expected to be completely restored by Tuesday 6th February.
