Many major hotels and resorts around the country are experiencing promising occupancy rates and expect this to increase heading into the Easter long weekend.
Fiji Village news today spoke to owners and managers of 18 hotels and resorts around the country and there has been varying responses.
The five star resorts and luxury hotels, including the Warwick along the coral coast, Yasawa Island Resort, and the Jean- Michel Coustaeu resort in Savusavu, to name a few, confirm that occupancy levels are above 70 percent at the moment.
General Manager Coustaeu resort Keiren Taylor told Fiji Village news that they expect 100% occupancy by Easter.
Several resorts in the outer islands, including Treasure Island, Beachcomber Island and Turtle Island resort and hotels along the coral coast report occupancy rates between 60 to 65 percent and expect things to pick up next weekend.
However, the hotels in Suva, Lautoka, Rakiraki and our tourist town Nadi report levels between 40 to 48 percent while hotels in Labasa, the Takia, Grand Eastern and Friendly North Inn all report ten percent and below occupancy rates.
Several hotels say while the next few weeks look postive however, all hotels said advanced forward bookings remain weak and it remains hard to predict when occupany levels would decrease of increase in the months ahead.
The Fiji Hoteliers Association said it will not comment.
