The Wages Council is now working on ways to differentiate wage rates in the hotel and catering industry.

A 35 cent across the board increase in wage rates has been proposed for the industry but there have been proposals to differentiate between the wage rates.

Wages Council chairman Father Kevin Barr said the proposal is a wise one considering the different profit margins gained by operators in the industry.

According to Father Barr, there are some hotel and resort owners who make millions in profits while there are some who go with little profits.
