Some consultants and other staff at the government hospitals are being investigated by the Health Ministry for allegedly charging service fees from patients for services which are supposed to be free of charge.
Ministry Spokesperson Iliesa Tora confirms they have received complaints that some health staff have been charging additional fees and issuing receipts that are not legally binding.
Tora said they will not tolerate such acts where the general public are being cheated.
Tora adds that only a few services have service charges.
Tora said members of the public are also advised that government fees for a test procedure includes the reporting of tests and x-rays, including CAT scans.
Members of the public are also advised to report to the Health Ministry if they are being charged for certain services which are supposed to be free.
