Hopes high that tourism numbers will boom
It has already been confirmed that Jetstar and V Australia will start servicing Fiji within months with competition expected to heat up.
Air Pacific has already confirmed that for its 2008 and 2009 financial year, it had a record 1 million passengers.
Tourism Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said there are a lot of opportunities and tourism numbers are expected to increase dramatically.
He also said Fiji will get direct connectivity to the Europe market with direct Air Pacific flights from Hong Kong to Nadi.
Meanwhile Sayed-Khaiyum said he knows that some reports continue to circulate overseas that armed soldiers are on the streets of Fiji.
He said he continues to get these comments when people come to Fiji and discover that no such thing is happening.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the positive indication is that people are starting to realize that Fiji is a safe destination.
