One of the 16 resolutions of the SDL General Assembly said they are calling the interim administrations to honor its commitments to the Forum Leaders and to the European Union to hold the next General Elections by March 2009 in order to return the country to democratic elections.

In the annual general meeting yesterday, one of the great concerns was the large amount of resources and financial commitments totaling some 2.4 million dollars that Interim Administration has set aside for the National Council for Building a Better Fiji, in its effort to draw up a Charter which is supposed to bind future Governments on future policies and directions for Fiji.

The SDL views with great concern the assault on the Great Council of Chiefs by the Interim Administration as reflected in the recent changes made to the GCC's Regulations as gazetted recently, which give effect to have the GCC chaired by the Minister for Indigenous Affairs and the barring of non installed chiefs elected as Members of Parliament and GCC.

SDL is not pleased with the way expatriate representatives of the media industry have been intimidated and expelled without recourse to the Courts to defend themselves.
