Vodafone Fiji 7’s coach, Ben Ryan has told his players some of the important things about playing at Hong Kong 7’s during the jersey presentation last night
Ryan told the players that they will definitely get nervous with 40,000 people in the stands.
He told the players that there will be noise everywhere in the ground and they may not hear their team mates who would be standing five meters away from them.
He says thousands of people will be watching them live on tv.
Meanwhile, Ryan believes the title race for the overall world series can be determined by the result of the Hong Kong 7s which starts tonight.
Ryan still think it’s New Zealand or South Africa that can claim the overall series title and it will probably take something quite weird for Fiji to get there even if they win the last three tournaments.
Ryan says they are confident of a good outing this weekend but they have to go past their pool first.
Ryan added they will adapt to the conditions in Hong Kong this weekend whether it’s wet or dry.
Last year Fiji made one of the greatest comeback victory in sevens rugby after being down by 19 nil at half time in the final in Hong Kong against Wales before replacement player and current skipper Osea Kolinisau scored three tries plus one from Samisoni Viriviri to win 26-19.
Kolinisau says the atmosphere in Hong Kong is different from any other tournament because fans always can forget about the past losses if Fiji wins in Hong Kong.
Kolinisau says he will never forget scoring the winning try last year.
Fiji have featured 24 times in the final of the Hong Kong 7s and they have won on 14 occasions.
Our first win was in 1977 just a year after the tournament started.
The Hong Kong 7s starts tonight and Fiji will take on Wales in their first pool match at 1.26am tomorrow, then Sri Lanka at 5.24pm and then Kenya in their last pool match at 11.16pm tomorrow.
On Sunday the cup quarter finals will start 3.28pm, cup semis kicks off at 7.52pm and the cup final will be at 10.25pm.
