Strong winds have destroyed seven homes on Qamea Island in the last hour.
Qamea resident Rajesh Chandra told Fijivillage that everyone is now moving to more secure homes.
He said people are scared as they do not know what to expect.
Meanwhile, Tukavesi is now feeling the full brunt of Hurricane Tomas.
Medical Officer at the Tukavesi Health Centre Samuela Nanuvu said from yesterday afternoon they have been experiencing strong winds coming into this morning with damages to trees.
Nanuvu said all the Health Centres along the area are on standby even though the telecommunication service is down in the area.
Though they have not received any reports, all they know is that everyone has been moved to the evacuation centres set up by DISMAC.
He added that they will only know the full brunt Hurricane Tomas once the winds die down and they will be able to travel around assessing the damages.
