Private security firm Home Land Security, which is made up of former reserves of the RFMF, has been awarded a $320,000 contract by Fiji Ports Cooperation to provide security at all ports around the country.
In a statement, Fiji Ports Chairman Semi Koroi-lavesau said Homeland Security was selected out of the 10 companies following a tender process.
Koroi-lavesau said Homeland was the only company to have met the international standards.
He also confirms that the former reserves were previously engaged by the RFMF to assist in providing security at the ports after the events of December 5th, 2006.
Koroilavesau stresses that the two year renewable contract awarded to Homeland Security is lower than what should be paid to someone to man the entire ports.
