For the first time in the history of the badminton sport in the country, this year’s Fiji Games will go down in the record books as both the Men and Women teams will fight it out in the same competition.
Organizer Loraine Mar said the number of female athletes has decreased but they will give their male counterparts a good run for their money as they will be led by Andrea Whiteside.
A record number of 8 districts will be represented this year with Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, Lami, Navua, Rakiraki, Rotuma and Nasinu.
The Fiji Games will also be a trial event for the U-18 boys hoping to represent Fiji at the Pune Commonwealth Youth Games.
The badminton competition will start at 9am on Friday at Yat Sen School.
