Hindus around the country today celebrate the festival of colours, Holi.
The Shri Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha General Secretary, Kamal Sharma said Holi is one of the prominent and significant festivals in the Hindu calendar.
He added during this festival not only Hindus but some Fijians also join in the singing of folk songs from house to house, playing with colours and water.
For this festival, similar to Diwali, sweets are also prepared and distributed to neighbors and friends.
Thousands of years ago in India, a King named Hirnakashpu did not have faith in God and he always told his followers to worship him, however his own son Prahlad did not.
The King tried to kill his own son using different tactics however God always saved him. One day the King called his sister Holika, who had a God given gift of being immune to fire, to take his son and sit in fire.
Holika got burnt and killed because she misused her powers however Prahlad was again saved.
God than came in the form of Narsingh (a half human and half lion) to kill the King and he saved all followers of God thus the celebration of Holi today.
