One of Osborne’s tries was a penalty try after a swinging arm from Waratahs flanker Jacques Potgieter which the TMO and referee ruled that it prevented Osborne from scoring.
Other tries from the Highlanders came from Aaron Smith and Richard Buckman.
Meanwhile, in the first semifinal last night, the Hurricanes qualified for their Super Rugby final since 2006 after beating the Brumbies 29‑9.
With a 12-3 lead at the break ‑ thanks to tries by Julian Savea and TJ Perenara - the Hurricanes were never troubled by a Brumbies side that failed to fire a single shot and was possibly out of gas in the opening stanza.
Other tries from the Hurricanes came from Ardie Savea and Matt Proctor.
The Hurricanes will host the Highlanders in the Super Rugby Final next Saturday at 7:35pm (Fiji Time).
