Fiji born Highlanders winger Waisake Naholo helped the defending champions beat the Brumbies in the first quarter final match of the Super Rugby championship.

Highlanders captain Shane Christie has praised his team‑mates character after they held on to beat the Brumbies 15-9 in Canberra.

The Highlanders victory keeps the defence of their title alive for at least another week as they progress to the Semi‑finals while the Brumbies have been eliminated.

Naholo and Liam Squire scored the only two tries in the match while fly‑half Lima Sopoaga landed a conversion and a penalty.

In other quarter finals, the Hurricanes battle the Sharks at 7.35 tonight.

Meanwhile the Lions will face the Crusaders at 2.30am tomorrow while the Stormers go head to head with the Chiefs at 5.05am.
