Four losses in their last five games and a trip to Sydney looms as another mission impossible for the Highlanders, as the Waratahs look to at least qualify for the finals.

It has been a typical funny old season from one of Australia's great rugby states.

With the Waratahs on 47 points and seventh on the table, those bonuses acquired over their trip to the Republic have given them a priceless two-point buffer over the eighth placed Highlanders.

Captain Dean Mumm said that it comes down to the last couple of weeks in the competition.

The Waratahs meet the Highlanders at 9:40pm on Saturday.
