A high percentage of youths divorce before they reach the age of thirty.
Youth officer at the Ministry of Youth Vani Catanasiga told participants at Save the Children Symposium this morning that over 20% of youths who get divorced are from Bua, Kadavu, Namosi and Ra.
According to the Government definition, a youth is defined as a person ranging between the ages of 15-35 years and Catanasiga said one of the problems affecting the people in this age group is unemployment.
According to the Youth Ministry, 32% of male youths, 26.3% of female youths are unemployed with 40% of youths in the provinces looking for jobs.
She added that 40% of unemployed youths have been looking for jobs for the past three years or longer.
She added the 2007 census showed that Fiji has a youth population of over 293,000 out of the over 835,000 people in the country, 45% or 134,316 reside in the rural areas while the rest are centered within the urban centers.
