The High Courts in Fiji will remain closed until mid January next year as the legal vacation for the judiciary commenced on December 14th.

Acting Chief Registrar Ana Rokomokoti confirmed that only the Magistrate’s Courts will be hearing cases as the legal vacation applies for the Judges of the High Court, Fiji Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.

The High Courts will resume hearing cases from January 15th.

Meanwhile, Rokomokoti also confirmed that work on processing complaints against lawyers continues and more lawyers are expected to be charged with various breaches of the Legal Practitioners Act soon.

So far, 10 lawyers have been charged and hearing dates are now being assigned for them to appear before the Independent Legal Services Commission early next year.
