High Court Upholds Removal Order
A removal order was issued against Mohammed Imran Ismiel Patel who was brought into the country on a work permit to head the Nasinu Branch of the Muslim league.
The Fiji Muslim League then informed the Director Immigration in writing last week, that Patel's employment was being terminated after he allegedly breached the conditions.
Patel's Lawyer Abhay Singh told Judge Justice Filimoni Jitoko that Patel's work permit is valid until 2010 and he should be entitled to remain and work in the country with the Nasinu Branch.
However, State lawyer Sarvada Sharma highighted the terms of Patel's work permit which states that he is not to involve himself in any other activities other then what is specified in his contract or he will be removed from Fiji.
Judge Jitoko, after considering all the submissions ruled that the application for stay is struck out and Patel is to be removed as per the Immigration Act.
Patel has appealed to the Interim Minister for Immigration Ratu Epeli Ganilau in writing, to reconsider the removal order. It has been confirmed that Patel left the country this morning.
