High Court Judge Wants Explanation
While several allegations have been made that the immigration department ignored the court order, Justice Jitoko gave the Solicitor General time last week to establish whether the relevant people were served with the order to stop the deportation.
Fiji Times lawyer Jon Apted confirmed to Fijivillage last week that they could not serve the court order directly and had to fax the order to the Immigration department.
However, it will be established today by the court whether the court order was received by the Director of Immigration Commander Viliame Naupoto and other relevant authorities.
Interim Defense Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau said in a statement last week that Commander Naupoto never received the court order to stop Hannah's deportation. Commander Naupoto also said that he had heard in some reports that the order was faxed to his office at about midnight and he said that he does not stay in the office all night. The case will start at 10 o'clock this morning.
