High Chiefs Son Calls for Support
While opening the Lau Provincial Council meeting at the Nasova Police Barracks, Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara urged the people of Lau to put aside all differences and work together to ensure Fiji returns to parliamentary democracy.
Ratu Tevita added that since the 2006 coup, there has been an increase in unemployment and the crime rate and more worrying, the increasing presence of racial and political differences.
Ratu Tevita has also called for the support of the Great Council of Chiefs Task Force adding that it’s for the good of all indigenous Fijians. He adds that the work of the Task Force should be commended because its main aim is to appoint chiefs that will fight for their people especially since most chiefly positions have been heavily politicised.
He says what's done is done and no one can turn back time so the only thing left to do is accept what the interim government has to offer in terms of the People's Charter since this seems to be the only solution for Fiji's problems.
The Lau Provincial Council meeting will continue in the next hour and an appointment of a new chairman is expected.
