50-year-old Bernard Hicks who murdered his 33-year-old defacto wife, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
While sentencing Hicks, High Court Judge, Justice Salesi Temo said that a presidential pardon may be considered after 16 years.
Justice Temo took into account that Hicks was generally remorseful, he was in remand for 4 months, pleaded guilty and saved the court's time.
The judge said that Hicks unnecessarily took away the life of a woman who was 33-years-old.
He said life is precious in this world and there is no justification for murder unless it is committed in self defence.
He said their argument could have been peacefully resolved.
Hicks pleaded guilty on the 5th of August.
He stabbed his defacto wife 8 times at an apartment in Suva after an argument.
