The business community in the North is hoping that there will be some concrete initiatives and not just false promises in relation to the Northern Development program, formally known as the Look North Policy when the national budget is announced.
President of the Labasa Chamber of Commerce Ashok Karan said there is a desperate need for improvement in the infrastructure as a first step in trying to help the Northern economy and by protecting the existing businesses.
Karan who is also a Board member of the Northern Development Project added that there is also a need for lucrative incentives for investors to increase employment opportunities as people in the North simply have no money to spend.
The 2009 National Budget will be announced on Friday.
