The Ecumenical Centre for Research Education and Advocacy (ECREA) said people especially in the rural areas and outer islands are deprived of good infrastructure facilities which prevent them from taking their goods to the markets and earning a living for themselves.
Program Consultant Father Kevin Barr said government and donor agencies need to assist people in these areas, not by giving money in their hand but by creating systems which will make them help themselves.
Father Kevin has also hit out at donor agencies which only prefer to help private sector developments adding they now need to change their policy towards helping the poor.
Father Barr said that ECREA is working with Economist Doctor Wadan Narsey in pushing for equal wage rates and also looking at ways on how squatters can get access to better housing facilities.
