Pacific Centre for Public Integrity Director, Angie Heffernan is expected to leave for New York later today to lobby against Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama.
Heffernan said she will be present in New York to outline the reality of the situation in Fiji under the interim regime.
She said PCPI will be there to raise three main issues, the human rights abuses in Fiji, the systematic erosion of the independence of the Fiji judiciary and the rule of law and the militarisation of the Fiji civil service.
During her visit, Heffernan intends to meet with international human rights and democracy NGOs based in New York, like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, foreign government official representatives and UN officials.
Heffernan is also confirmed to meet with Glyn Davis, the US Assistant Under Secretary for State for Asia Pacific in New York to brief him on the situation in Fiji.
There is only one flight tonight from Fiji to New York and both the Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama and Heffernan are expected to be on that flight.
