Water Authority of Fiji said that the bad weather condition yesterday has disrupted the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant decreasing water intake by 40% that is affecting nearly 67,000 customers primarily in Tamavua-i-wai, Tacirua, Cunningham, Delainavesi, Lami and Veisari to Toga Levu.
CEO, Opetaia Ravai said the Authority is carting water to residents in these areas.
Meanwhile, residents at the vicinity of Cunningham Creek and the greater Laucala Bay area are advised to refrain from fishing, swimming and taking part in other water activities following the collapse of the main wastewater trunk line.
Ravai said the wastewater trunk line that carries untreated waste from the greater Suva area to the Kinoya Waste Treatment Plant collapsed due to the severe weather condition yesterday.
He said the wastewater is now being discharged directly into Cunningham Creek flowing into Laucala Bay area.
He added that the engineers have been working through the night to design a temporary replacement which will take less than a month to construct.
Ravai said the heavy downpour yesterday may have caused the break in the trunk line although it is still too early to determine the reason.
He added that they are also trying to control the odor that is escaping from the wastewater sewage.
Ravai said once the temporary pipeline goes up then they will start
He added that the Water Authority call center is open 24/7 3346777 for people to call in.
