Heavy rain expected to continue
According to the weather forecaster, an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain is affecting the country at the moment and flooding of low lying areas is expected later today.
The current weather is expected to clear by Saturday as a ridge of high pressure is approaching the country from the southwest.
The Laucala Bay area recorded 115.3 millimeters of rainfall and this was the highest amount recorded in the last 24 hours.
44.8 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Nausori.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Office has called on members of the public to be vigilant as heavy rain may cause flood waters to rise in creeks, rivers and streams.
Acting Director Aisea Quminakelo has also warned parents to closely monitor their children to avoid the loss of lives.
According to him, the public will be continually updated with the public advisory depending on the weather condition.
