People should take necessary precautions now as heavy rain and strong winds will affect the Fiji group from tonight.
Nadi Weather Office Director Alipate Waqaicelua said the tropical disturbance is located 680 kilometres to the North West of Nadi and is moving closer to Fiji.
It is also intensifying and will become a tropical depression within the next few hours.
Waqaicelua said people should be prepared for the system to become a tropical cyclone by late tomorrow or Thursday.
However, he stressed that the heavy rain and strong winds will affect many areas from today.
A heavy rain warning is in force for the whole of the Fiji group.
Forecasters say heavy rain may result in localised flash flooding from later today.
