Heavy penalties for tampering infested materials
This comes after the Operation Kadivuka team who are currently treating homes infested with termites discovered that over the last two weeks infested materials were tampered and destroyed by some Lautoka residents.
Spokeswoman, Rosa Dalituicama said that the government is treating the infestation as a national bio security issue and those who are found tampering with the materials can be held liable.
As of Friday, a total of 11,700 homes were surveyed out of which 950 homes were found to be infested, 236 homes treated and out of 2,285 trees that were infested 276 were treated.
Meanwhile the Termite task force will undergo a special one day Basic Wood Technology Training in Lautoka today.
Coordinator for the Forest and Trees team Division for SPC, Sairusi Bulai told Fijivillage News that these officials will be informed about the variety of trees in the country and how to treat them before it is used.
The training is being held at Sugarcane Growers Council Building in Lautoka.
