Some schools in Rakiraki closed early today and students have been sent home due to heavy rain.
Divisional Education Officer, Rajendra Singh has confirmed that many of the schools located in the town area are closed as they are still trying to get feedback from schools in the interior of Rakiraki.
Meanwhile over 670 students of Sigatoka Methodist High School have been sent home due to heavy rain and the high risk of flooding.
School Principal, Nacanieli Bola Rawaico confirms some students who are from the low lying areas are waiting for the parents to come before they leave the school premises.
Rawaico said they do not want to risk the lives of the students as the situation could get worse.
Police in the Western Division are on standby as heavy rain continues in Navua, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Tavua and Rakiraki.
The Nadi Weather Office has today issued a flash flood warning for the low lying areas around the country.
This is due to the trough of low pressure over the Western part of the country which is slowly moving East across the group.
Nadi Weather Office Director, Rajendra Prasad said people should take precautions now.
