Eighty six per cent of deaths among soldiers are due to heart Diseases.

This is according to RFMF Biochemistry Department Pathology Laboratory Eliki Lesione as he presented on a "overview of mortality trends in active duty population in the Republic Fiji Military Force" at the Fiji Medical Association Annual Conference in Suva.

Lesione said that active combat injuries are not the main causes of soldiers death but heart diseases that are prevalent among the force and that from the year 2003- 2007, two out of 1000 soldiers in the RFMF deaths are due to cardiac diseases.

He said this indicates lifestyle diseases are even prevalent among the active duty force in the whole RFMF.
