The Health Ministry is working on ways to improve staffing numbers and issues as part of its Health Reform Programme currently being undertaken.

Media Liaison Officer Iliesa Tora said plans include strengthening the Nursing workforce and strengthening doctor numbers and workforce plus the introduction of new short term courses that would help up skill staff.

Tora said the plans include the recruitment of specialists from India and possibly from the Philippines to fill the current 14 vacant positions. He adds this also includes the review of Medical and Dental Practitioners Act to enable annual licensing and strengthening of continuing medical education.

Tora adds the Ministry have been working tirelessly over the past five months to find solutions to problems that have been long standing, and is confident that if these plans were all auctioned, problematic issues would be solved.
