The Health Ministry is now preparing to move out of Ba Mission Hospital after an earlier threat by the Methodist Church General Secretary that they will close the hospital if they are forced to pay the 435,000 dollars debt owed to the government.
Interim Health Minister, Doctor Jona Senilagakali has confirmed today that they have now drawn up a contingency plan as the church is expected to discuss the issue in their conference in Macuata next week.
The Methodist Church of Fiji General Secretary, Reverend Ame Tugawe said they had made an arrangement with the ousted SDL government for the debt to be written off, and they are hoping that this would be done.
Meanwhile Ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase said he cannot remember an agreement with the Methodist Church for the government to write off the debt owed by the church for repairs at the Ba Mission Hospital.
Doctor Senilagakali maintains that the church should pay its dues as tax dollars were used to repair the Ba Mission Hospital, based on the understanding that the church would repay the amount.
