The Health Ministry is strictly monitoring a settlement in Suva where six cases of Typhoid have been identified by the Health Ministry.
The Ministry Spokesperson Iliesa Tora said they have found that Jittu Estate settlement has improper disposal of sewerage which allows bacteria to seep in the Water Supply used by people daily. He said the lack of proper hygiene in the settlement is one of the key factors to the spread of the disease.
Tora also stresses that the Health Ministry has the powers to stop people from gathering in places where people are found to be suffering from Typhoid.
Tora said they advice people about the risk of social gatherings in villages where typhoid patients have been found and if the advice is still not taken into account then the Ministry will use its powers with the assistance of the police.
So far there have been 44 cases reports around the country with 32 in the Central Eastern division, five in Ra and seven in the North.
